One of the moments I liked best in our Lovers in Literature course was when we talked about The Notebook. That story has always been a favorite of mine granted I've only watched the movie. Seeing how Noah and Allie stayed devoted through years apart and tough times made me realize love isn’t just about excitement or butterflies. It’s about choosing to stick by someone, even when it’s hard. I believe that their love is a love that everyone should strive for.
We looked at all kinds of love this semester but The Notebook felt the most real to me. It showed that real love is a daily choice. Checking in, making sacrifices, and caring about someone’s happiness as much as your own if not at times more than your own sometimes. After this class, I keep thinking about how I can bring that kind of loyalty and kindness into my friendships and family relationships, not just in romantic ones. In the end, The Notebook taught me that love really means being there, no matter what.
